What BPC-157 is
BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide: a chain of fifteen amino acids derived from a protein sequence found naturally in gastric juice. The name is short for Body Protection Compound. It is not a hormone, not a steroid, and not related to growth hormone. It sits in the research-peptide category alongside compounds like TB-500, and most published interest concerns angiogenesis and fibroblast migration in connective tissue models.
Presentation
Supplied by Quanta Pharma as a 5mg lyophilised powder in a sealed glass vial. Lyophilised means freeze-dried under vacuum: the water has been removed, leaving a solid cake or a fine layer at the base of the vial. Depending on the batch this may look like a compact disc of material or a barely visible film. Both are normal, and the quantity is confirmed by weight at manufacture rather than by eye.
The vial requires reconstitution before use. A separate diluent is needed, most commonly bacteriostatic water, which is not included in the 5mg presentation.
Reconstitution
Bring the vial to room temperature before adding anything. Swab the stopper, draw your diluent, and introduce it against the inside wall of the vial so it runs down rather than striking the powder directly. A jet fired into the cake shears the peptide and is the most common handling error we see.
Let it dissolve on its own. Swirl gently if it is slow. Do not shake: agitation denatures peptides, and foaming is a sign of damage rather than mixing. A correctly reconstituted vial is clear and colourless. Cloudiness, strands or material that will not dissolve means the vial should not be used.
Concentration is simply total peptide divided by diluent volume. This 5mg vial with 1ml added gives 5mg/ml, so 10 units on a U-100 insulin syringe carries 500mcg. The same vial with 2ml gives 2.5mg/ml, and those same 10 units carry 250mcg. Nothing about the vial changed. Adding more diluent spreads the material across more syringe units, which makes small measurements proportionally more accurate.
Storage
Sealed and lyophilised, store at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius away from light. In the dry state the peptide is stable for a long period, because hydrolysis, the main route of degradation, needs water to proceed. Long-term storage below minus 20 degrees is safe while the material is still dry.
Once reconstituted the rules change. Keep the vial refrigerated, upright and out of light, and do not freeze it. Ice crystals forming through a solution physically shear peptide chains, and each freeze-thaw cycle compounds the damage. A solution frozen and thawed twice can look perfectly clear while having lost much of its activity.
Where bacteriostatic water was used as the diluent, the 0.9 percent benzyl alcohol suppresses microbial growth and permits repeated withdrawals. Manufacturers commonly specify 28 days from first puncture, and in practice that figure often governs before the peptide's own chemical stability does.
Batch testing
Every Quanta Pharma batch is HPLC tested. High-performance liquid chromatography separates a sample into its components under pressure through a packed column, and the resulting chromatogram shows the main peak alongside any impurities. Purity is expressed as main peak area against total area.
A purity figure is only meaningful if the batch identifier on the report matches the batch in your hand. Check that before relying on it.

Is BPC-157 a steroid? No. It is a peptide, a short chain of amino acids, with no structural or functional relationship to anabolic steroids.
What is the difference between BPC-157 and TB-500? Both are research peptides studied in tissue repair models, but they are structurally unrelated. BPC-157 is a 15-amino-acid sequence from gastric juice; TB-500 is a synthetic fragment of thymosin beta-4 corresponding to its actin-binding region.

What do I mix it with? Bacteriostatic water is the usual choice because the preservative allows more than one withdrawal. Plain sterile water for injection works but has no preservative, so the vial becomes single use.
