What TB-500 is

TB-500 is a synthetic peptide corresponding to the actin-binding region of thymosin beta-4, a protein found naturally in most human cells and in high concentration in blood platelets and wound fluid. It is not the whole protein: TB-500 reproduces the specific fragment responsible for actin sequestration, which is the property most research has focused on.

It is a peptide, not a steroid and not a growth hormone derivative. Published interest concerns cell migration and actin regulation in tissue models.

TB-500 compared with BPC-157

These two are frequently mentioned together and are often assumed to be variants of one another. They are structurally unrelated.

Presentation

Supplied by Quanta Pharma as a lyophilised powder in a sealed glass vial. Freeze-dried under vacuum, so the contents may appear as a solid disc or as a barely visible film at the base. Both are normal. Quantity is confirmed by weight at manufacture, not by how much you can see.

Reconstitution is required before use, and a diluent is needed. Bacteriostatic water is the usual choice and is not included in this presentation.

Reconstitution

Let the vial reach room temperature first. Swab the stopper, draw your diluent, and introduce it against the inside wall of the vial so it runs down the glass. Firing liquid straight into the cake shears the peptide and is the single most common handling error.

Let it dissolve on its own, swirling gently if slow. Never shake. Agitation denatures peptides, and foam is evidence of damage rather than mixing. The result should be clear and colourless. Cloudiness, strands or residue that will not dissolve means the vial should not be used.

Concentration is total peptide divided by diluent volume. A 10mg vial with 2ml added gives 5mg/ml, so 10 units on a U-100 insulin syringe carries 500mcg. The same vial with 5ml gives 2mg/ml and those 10 units carry 200mcg. Choosing a larger diluent volume spreads the material across more syringe graduations, which makes small measurements proportionally more accurate.

Storage

Sealed and lyophilised, store at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius away from light. In the dry state the peptide holds up over long periods, because hydrolysis needs water to proceed. Storage below minus 20 degrees is safe while the material remains dry.

Once reconstituted, refrigerate at 2 to 8 degrees, keep the vial upright and out of light, and do not freeze it. Ice crystals shear peptide chains as they form, and each freeze-thaw cycle adds to the damage without changing how the solution looks.

Where bacteriostatic water is the diluent, manufacturers commonly specify 28 days from first puncture. That window often expires before the peptide itself degrades, so it is usually the governing figure. Mark the vial when you first puncture it.

Batch testing

Every Quanta Pharma batch is HPLC tested. High-performance liquid chromatography separates the sample under pressure through a packed column and produces a chromatogram showing the main peak alongside any impurities. Purity is the main peak area as a proportion of total area.

The number is only meaningful if the batch identifier on the report matches the batch you hold. Check the match, not just the percentage.

Is TB-500 a steroid? No. It is a peptide fragment of a naturally occurring protein, with no structural or functional relationship to anabolic steroids.

Is TB-500 the same as thymosin beta-4? Not quite. Thymosin beta-4 is the full 43 amino acid protein. TB-500 reproduces the shorter actin-binding region within it.

Can it be mixed in the same vial as BPC-157? They are supplied as separate vials and should be reconstituted separately. Combining lyophilised material from two vials removes your ability to know the concentration of either.

What do I reconstitute it with? Bacteriostatic water is standard, because the benzyl alcohol permits repeated withdrawals. Plain sterile water works but has no preservative, so the vial becomes single use.
