What tirzepatide is
Tirzepatide is a dual receptor agonist, acting at both the GIP and GLP-1 receptors from a single peptide. That combination is what separates it from the earlier single-receptor GLP-1 agonists such as semaglutide and liraglutide, where activity is confined to one receptor.

Presentation
Supplied by Quanta Pharma as a lyophilised powder in a sealed vial with bacteriostatic water included. Freeze-dried under vacuum, the material presents as a compact cake or a thin film at the base of the vial depending on batch. Both are normal, and quantity is confirmed by weight at manufacture rather than by appearance.
Also available as a pre-filled SerenQ pen and a VLS pen, both of which arrive as made-up solutions requiring no reconstitution.
Reconstitution
Bring the vial to room temperature before adding anything. Swab the stoppers, draw the bacteriostatic water, and run it down the inside wall of the vial rather than firing it into the powder. Direct impact shears the peptide and is the most frequent handling mistake with lyophilised material.
Let it dissolve unaided, swirling gently if needed. Do not shake: agitation denatures peptides and foaming signals damage rather than progress. A correct solution is clear and colourless. Cloudiness, strands or undissolved residue means the vial should be set aside.
Concentration is total peptide divided by diluent volume. A 30mg vial with 3ml gives 10mg/ml, so 10 units on a U-100 syringe carries 1000mcg. The same vial with 6ml gives 5mg/ml and those units carry 500mcg. Adding more diluent spreads the material across more syringe graduations, which makes small measurements proportionally more accurate.
Storage
Sealed and dry, store at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius, protected from light. Lyophilised peptide is stable over long periods because hydrolysis needs water to proceed.
Once reconstituted, keep refrigerated, upright and dark, and never freeze. Ice crystal formation shears peptide chains, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles compound the damage invisibly: the solution can remain perfectly clear while having lost much of its activity.
Bacteriostatic water is commonly specified at 28 days from first puncture, and that window frequently governs before the peptide's own stability does. Mark the vial with the puncture date.
Batch testing
Every Quanta Pharma batch is HPLC tested. The technique separates a sample into its components under pressure through a packed column, producing a chromatogram in which the main peak is measured against total peak area to give a purity figure.
That figure is only meaningful when the batch identifier on the report matches the batch in hand. Verify the match rather than the number alone.

Is tirzepatide the same as Mounjaro? Mounjaro is a brand name for licensed tirzepatide, prescription-only in the UK. The molecule is the same; the licensing, manufacture and supply chain are not.
Tirzepatide or semaglutide? They differ in mechanism rather than degree. Semaglutide acts at the GLP-1 receptor alone, tirzepatide at both GIP and GLP-1. Published pharmacokinetics give semaglutide roughly a 7 day half-life and tirzepatide roughly 5.
Vial or pen? The vial is lyophilised powder needing reconstitution, and you set the concentration. A pen is a sealed made-up solution dosed by dialling units, removing both the reconstitution step and the arithmetic.
Why is bacteriostatic water included? The vial needs a diluent, and the benzyl alcohol in bacteriostatic water permits repeated withdrawals. Plain sterile water contains no preservative and would make the vial single use.
